About the Dachshund
Don't let the small size fool you — Dachshunds are bold, spirited, and fiercely devoted to their people. Originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers, these little scent hounds have an enormous personality. They're clever, curious, and love being at the center of attention. A Dachshund will follow you from room to room, curl up in your lap, and alarm-bark at anything that dares approach their territory.
Dachshunds come in two sizes (Miniature and Standard) and three coat varieties: smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired. Each variety has a slightly different personality — wirehaired Dachshunds tend to be more mischievous, while longhaired are often calmer. Their bold personality and compact size make them one of the most charming breeds to ever grace a household.

Great for
Care & Grooming
Dachshunds need moderate daily exercise — short walks and playtime are perfect. Because of their long spine, it's important to prevent jumping from high surfaces to avoid back injuries (IVDD). Their droopy ears need regular cleaning to prevent infections.
Health Notes
Prone to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their long spine. Ramps instead of stairs are recommended. Obesity can worsen back problems.
🐾 Fun Fact
Dachshunds were the first breed to be used as an Olympic mascot — the 1972 Munich Olympics featured a Dachshund named Waldi as the official mascot.
